We are a research group in the Department of Computer Science at University of Maryland, College Park. We study how people interact with data for analysis and communication, and design computational systems to better support these interactions. Our research focuses primarily on data visualization, drawing on multidisciplinary methods to develop empirical insights, theoretical frameworks, grammars, datasets, benchmarks, and interactive systems. We also explore broader problems in human–computer interaction, where new representations, interaction techniques, and intelligent systems can improve how people understand information and accomplish complex tasks. We are affiliated with the Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL) at UMD.
